#ThankYouMiami Moves To West Avenue

There's a good reason for my near radio silence the past two weeks: I moved. Turns out, moving is harder and takes a lot longer than you anticipate. (You have WAY more stuff than you think you do. And, that delivery you scheduled? Yea, that's going to be inexplicably delayed.) But, now that I am all moved in, I'm excited to get to know my new neighborhood and get back in the swing of things.

There's a lot to discover in my new 'hood. I lived South of Fifth for five years and knew it like the palm of my hand. West Avenue is a completely different, unfamiliar planet to me. (It was "too far" from my beachfront SoFi digs.) When my cleaning lady cut her hand and asked me for a bandaid, I didn't even know where I could find a pharmacy nearby. I eventually found one—thanks to Google—but it was overwhelming to realize I'm starting from scratch.

I'm not completely lost. I was sufficiently informed on the first day of my move to pick-up Halves & Wholes as a quick lunch between moving boxes. My dry cleaner, my eye doctor, and my go-to happy hour spot, Bodega, are all down the street. But I am sorely missing South Pointe Park (one of my favorite Miami parks), the beach, and my neighbors. They were constants of my SoFi life for which I have yet to find substitutes here.

It is going to be a journey to feel fully settled, to make West Avenue feel like home. It will certainly never replace SoFi—how can I ever top what I had there? That said, it's time to make new memories, build new friendship, and get acquainted with the area. I look forward to sharing my West Avenue journey with you, starting this Wednesday with the scoop on Via Emilia 9, a regional Italian restaurant that welcomed me to the neighborhood with an incredibly delicious dinner.
