As lovers of love, we are huge fans of a solid, romantic date night. (We're talking Lady and the Tramp style with twinkling lights, white table cloths, classic Italian food and live music.) Our most memorable date night recently took place at Surfside newcomer, Villa Castelli Ristorante. There—surrounded by the holiday lighting-clad palm trees of Harding Avenue, serenaded by singer Normand Meilleur—we were whisked away into an evening of romance starring course-after-course of delicious homemade Italian.
We began our culinary journey with Villa Castelli's complementary bruschetta, followed with a Mediterranean sea bass and salmon carpaccio and an octopus salad both with capers, tomatoes, olives, and arugula in a mouthwatering citrus dressing. Then, in a total power move influenced completely by our obsession with the citrus dressing, we shamelessly dipped their homemade warm, crusty bread into the empty appetizer plates until we spotted our server coming to clear our table. For entrées we tag teamed a pasta dish (linguine with clams in a garlic and white wine sauce), a seafood dish (a butter and lemon sea bass with scallops and shrimp) and a meat dish (one of their USDA Prime Grade dry aged steaks topped with foie gras). We wrapped up our main courses pleasantly plump and in the beginning stages of a food coma, but as you well know, there is a special compartment in our stomachs reserved for dessert so we still ordered the panna cotta with berries.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable date night dinner. If you're looking to impress a first date or to enjoy a romantic evening, Villa Castelli has everything you need to make it happen including three new prix-fixe menus that make it easy to choose a Great ($45pp), Greatest ($65pp), or Grand ($85pp) authentic Italian experience. Also, if you can, plan your visit from Tuesday through Saturday between 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. so you and your date can enjoy dinner accompanied by Normand Meilleur's swooning vocals. Buon appetito!
