Summer is in full swing and, if the rest of its days are anything like this weekend, we are going to have a full season of perfect beach days. For us, the perfect beach day involves sun, a cool breeze, a group of friends, a cold drink, and a delicious potluck (think fresh salads and slow-cooked meats). What about you?

Whether its our clear blue waters, the "So Miami" sights (we see you "agua fría" dude), or the amazing weather, the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA) wants to know what your perfect beach day is like and will reward you handsomely for it with prizes. To enter the contest, caption the photo above by describing your perfect beach day in 100 characters or less to the MBVCA Facebook contest page by 11:59 p.m. on July 5, 2015. This means you have a week to get to the beach or channel your favorite beach memory!

The top ten photos with the most likes will be chosen as semi-finalists and will be judged by the MBVCA judges for originality, relevance, and overall impression to win one of these great prizes:

• First place: $500 Visa gift card
• Second place: $250 Visa gift card
• Third place: $100 Visa gift card

#ThankYouMiami for New Nightlife Arrivals - Libertine Miami

The Miami business circle of life can be brutal. Just a few weeks ago we were on twitter mourning the loss of some of our favorite local restaurants that closed, especially go-tos  La Gloutonnerie and Cafe Mistral. And, don't even get us started on last year's closure of our favorite neighborhood bar Public House (which we're still not over, by the way). But, when the Miami business gods take away, they open up opportunities for new kids on the block to fill the void left behind. One of the newest arrivals to the Miami scene is Libertine Miami, a new speakeasy-style bar in downtown that is giving new life to Space's Hip Hop rooms of days past.

Yesterday we re-emerged from the comfort of our apartment to welcome Libertine to the Miami scene and get a taste of the vibes they're bringing to downtown. Our two cents? Think Bardot, but with a focus on well-curated décor as well as the music. The space, which was designed by Thrilwall Design, features a gold lamé wall, an 18th century fire place lined with mirrored subway tile, and an eye-catching floor design made with thousands of real pennies (there are about $30 worth). The music programming will be under the creative direction of Supermarket Creative's Michelle Leshem and will include cult classics, new wave, indie (think Talking Heads, Groove Amanda) which will emanate from a Baby Grand piano that has been converted into a DJ booth. It is dope!

The low-key watering hole is bringing variety to the neighborhood so we're excited that it is officially opening this week! You can check it out Thursday through Sunday starting at 10 p.m. They had a soft opening last week and we hear the party went on until 8 a.m. the next morning so definitely expect the unexpected. Oh, and if you are having trouble finding it, use your GPS and look for the door next to the blue awning - trust.

#ThankYouMiami for the Weekend - It's Rum Time!

In Miami, we talk a lot about our connection to Latin America but we also have a deep tie to the Caribbean. If you look around, most of our locals are from the Caribbean (yes, Cubans but also Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, etc) and, with them, they brought rich culture, traditions, and history that has become part of Miami’s present-day identity. Our Caribbean roots are responsible for great food, great people. Most importantly, where do you think Miami-ans learned how to throw such a great party?

Recently, we came across a new web series from Rums of Puerto Rico and HISTORY.com that got us particularly excited about the influences that have come to us from la Isla del Encanto. In this short (approx. 5 min) episodes, Rum Times explores world history through the eyes of Puerto Rican rum. It plays on the idea that because Puerto Rico has been distilling rum for so long - 450 years to be exact - Puerto Rican rum was probably used to celebrate many historical milestones. Can you imagine John Collins and Carl Fisher posted up beachside celebrating the completion of Miami Beach with delicious rum drinks? Considering the proximity of Puerto Rico to our beautiful shores, it's not such a crazy idea...

While we lobby for a Miami episode, we’ve uploaded the episode about the celebration that may have followed the invention of the incandescent light bulb below for your viewing pleasure. You can also check out one on the invention of the camera on the Rum Times site. As you would expect from a HISTORY.com program, the series is educational. For example, the episode below details Thomas Edison’s quest for electric light and uses words such as “carbonized bamboo” so you know it’s teacher-approved. But, the videos also give us an opportunity to see Puerto Rico and its rich history in a new light. And, in doing so, allow us to better understand our own history here in Miami.

As we continue exploring our Caribbean connection, we look forward to future episodes of Rum Times so we can learn more about our Puerto Rican influences (and their delicious rums!). Until then, all this talk about the Rum Capital of the World is making us thirsty. And, since it’s (almost) the weekend, It’s Rum Time!

#ThankYouMiami for "So #Miami" Gift Ideas for Dad

Guess who's back to fulfill your procrastinating holiday gift needs? That's right - your favorite blog that runs on Miami time. The holiday du jour is Father's Day, which in case you didn't realize is this Sunday. In the essence of time, here are five "so Miami" gift ideas that we compiled during our quest for the perfect gift to celebrate our faja and thank him for our Dutch lineage (similar to what we're doing above but more impressive). And, in case you didn't get the reference in our papi's nickname, here's the short clip from which it originated.

1. Luxury liquor. Our dad doesn't drink often, but he is Mexican so he appreciates a good tequila. For him, we like Jose Cuervo's "Reserva de la Familia" because it is an extra añejo, limited edition tequila with a rich cultural heritage (and a super cool bottle). Whether your dad is a tequila, bourbon or scotch drinker, you can't go wrong with a nice bottle of booze as long as it's accompanied with a heartfelt card.

2. Stand-out style. Let's face it - most men grow up wearing whatever their mom, wife, or other women in their life gift them so this one's for the Miami ladies. Think of your dad's favorite piece of clothing and upgrade it by buying it in an on-trend color or style. In our case, our dad needs a new and sleeker pair of shades. Growing up, he always sported a pair of Oakley's so we have been eyeing these Oakley Sliver ones in Black. The best part is that Oakley has local stores where we can pick them up so we don't have to expedite the shipping.

3. Boozy brunch. Our bet is that President Johnson was a Miami-an because who else would proclaim Father's Day on a Sunday if not a person that enjoys celebrating it with Sunday brunch? "Irregardless", it's the perfect way to kill two birds with one stone: celebrate dad AND get in your favorite meal of the week. In addition to your usual options, there's some noteworthy specials like Piripi's $15 bottomless mimosas and sangria and Bagatelle's Scotch cocktail and chocolate dessert pairing (which has a candied bacon strip BTW).

4. Delicious dinner. If dinner is more your dad's thing, Miami's also got his back with a ton of dinner options. The men in our life are meat and potatoes type people so we like the idea of treating dad to a steakhouse. STK Miami totally gets us because they created a special menu in honor of Father's Day that includes an appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert paired with a complimentary Whiskey cocktail. Plus, they're toning down their heavy SoBe vibe a smudge to be more dad-appropriate for the night.

5. Outdoor options. Faja is a watch-sports-in-sweats kinda guy, but we know there are dads out there who are outdoors men. Lucky for them, Miami's natural environment offers a lot for them to explore with you or on their own. For example, our wrecks or colorful coral reefs are within easy reach if you book a trip with South Beach Divers. Or, if fishing is more his thing, you can book an affordable day trip with Kelley Fleet. They're a great way to spend time with dad and make some unforgettable Miami memories.

Bikini season is back with a vengeance and, this year, we were a little too lax with our preparations. Now, with five pounds left to lose and absolutely no muscle tone, we're scrambling to get fit at the very last minute. Lucky for us, working out is getting more fun by the minute and the suite of workout options is ever expanding.

Just last week Crunch Gym launched Bellatone, their Miami-born workout of latin and belly dancing-inspired dance moves, on Crunch Live. We've had the option of partaking in this dance fusion workout for a while at our local Crunch Gym, but this news is a game changer for people who, like us, are dance challenged or shy. Now that the video is available in the Crunch Live library, we can try this super fun workout in the privacy of our own home. No prying eyes, no judgements, no shame - just burned calories and a rush of endorphins.

Per usual, programming greatness has flooded our inbox and, because we have a vested interest in helping you get the most out of your Miami experience, we're eager to share. Whether you're in Wynwood, Brickell or even Kendall, the next couple of days are loaded with can't-miss adventure. Here are the five events that need to be on your radar:

1. Free Uber Rides in Kendall

As part of their new Passport to Summer initiative, Uber is giving their riders free rides in South Florida's great neighborhoods. This weekend they have picked Kendall as their chosen destination. For those of you that, like us, rarely visit this southern suburban neighborhood, you have no excuse not to go. Come check out the camera that began a revolution in 2006 and has since been used to film your favorite shows and movies (House of Cards, anyone?). Their third retail location in the U.S., and their first store in Miami, will feature hands-on product demonstrations and showcase the latest RED camera innovations. It will also serve as a gallery for works shot on RED so don't forget to stop by during Art Walk.

3. Game of Thrones Dinner in Coconut Grove

Also on Saturday, June 13, The Bookstore in the Grove, will be hosting a Game of Thrones-themed feast from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Our favorite Coconut Grove bookstore steals our hearts by recreating the Seven Kingdoms of our TV show obsession and will be serving foods inspired by Westeros, The North, The South, and The Wall. If you're looking for a place to eat your feelings about the impending season finale, this event is your big chance!

4. Wedding Salon Bridal Event in Downtown

On Monday, June 15, Wedding Salon will be hosting a high end bridal event at the Epic Hotel from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Whether you're engaged or day-dreaming about your perfect wedding, this is your opportunity to interact with the best of Miami's wedding vendors, including Miami cake guru Ana Paz Cakes. There will also be beauty and spa treatments, food samples, music, and goodie bags so it's the perfect girl's night out. You need a ticket to enter, but one ticket admits two adults.

5. Yoga Soundscape in the A&E District

On Tuesday, June 16, the Arts and Entertainment District will host its second Yoga Soundscape event at 7 p.m. You've heard us talk about our experience at the first-ever rendition of this event so we'll let our recap speak for itself. #ThankYouMiami for Merging Design, Fashion and Art - AC Miami Beach Hotel

This week Miami Beach's Mid-Beach neighborhood welcomed a new resident: AC Miami Beach Hotel. Located at 29th and Collins, the recently completed building, with its sleek, modern exterior, is the latest indicator of the area's developer-led renaissance. And, thanks to the hotel's focus on art and design, it fits seamlessly among the neighborhood's other recent newcomers, The Thompson and The Edition. Once inside, however, it is instantly apparent that AC Miami Beach Hotel offers a more boutique, a more cozy vibe than its nearby peers and contributes much-needed variety to the area.

"I like to stay at AC Hotels because they are geared toward being accessible and catering to business travelers," says fashion photographer, TV star and author Nigel Barker. "That is important for a person like me that lives in hotels 80-percent of the year."

We caught up with Nigel at one of the opening celebrations of AC Miami Beach Hotel and, over breakfast, talked to him about his long-standing love for Miami, his New York Times best-selling book "Models of Influence", and the book recommendations he left waiting for you in the hotel's library. Our biggest surprise was discovering that Miami was the first place Nigel visited in the United States and that his wife is a University of Miami alum (Go 'Canes!). He says #ThankYouMiami for "the beautiful people, the beautiful weather, the beautiful life and for welcoming me to America in the first place. I wouldn't be here without you."

Nigel was among a handful of influencers invited to learn about the property's integration of design, fashion and art and explore the gorgeous building.  Others in attendance included Chris Noerskau, co-founder of Slow Watches, and Rem D. Koolhaas, founder of United Nude, both of whom had pop-up shops at the hotel. This visit was Chris's first time in Miami and the pop-up was Slow Watches' first store in the U.S. We hope Miami left an impression on him like it did for us on our first visit and that he will be back. Our community loves creatives who redefine the conventional and he and his co-founder literally redesigned the watch.

Rem and his architectural shoe designs are another no-brainer for Miami. Our community goes gaga for starchitects and, with his pedigree and connections (he recently collaborated with Zaha Hadid), he certainly qualifies. In fact, he seems incredibly at ease here for someone who hails from abroad. When we ask him about Miami he smiles and says, "#ThankYouMiami for the great architecture and the inspiration."

While the awe-inspiring designs of Slow Watches and United Nude were only on display for a limited time, art and inspiration abound throughout the hotel. In fact, the lobby, rooms, and rooftop pool deck all feature locally-inspired art. In the lobby, you will find the work of Miami-based Michelle Weinberg, which decorates the lobby's central column with an abstract design, and that of Texan Chuck Ramirez, which livens the western lobby wall with colorful suitcase portraits that tell a story of different traveler types. The rooms are decorated with one of two beachscape-meets-abstract works by Spain-import Andres Fernandez. And, last but not least, there's the stunning black-and-white photo by Lauren Koplowitz that will soon hang above the rooftop pool in juxtaposition to its colorful Miami  surroundings.

Our morning at AC Miami Beach Hotel left us inspired, invigorated, and impressed. Looking forward, we're excited to have a front row seat as AC Hotels writes its Miami chapter. ¡Bievenidos a la familia Miami-eña, friends!

#ThankYouMiami Talks Last Week In Miami: 6/1/2015

Last week was an unnaturally busy one. Even pro multi-taskers like ourselves had a hard time keeping up with all the amazing events and the exciting news that unleashed in but seven days. Fortunately, we kept our eye on the ball. Here are five things you may have missed, but need to know:

1. American Express' Centurion Lounge is finally open at Miami International Airport. As Amex cardholders and frequent travelers, this was the best news we received all week. The new lounge has the basics (WiFi and luggage lockers) and the not-so-basics (spa services, showers, a family room). And guess what? To round out the lounge's "SO Miami" ambiance, Amex engaged Chef Michy Bernstein to serve up Miami-inspired food. Bravo, Amex!

2. NBC Universo's Larrymania Season 4 will premiere Sunday, June 14. On Thursday, Miami's latino entertainment media gathered at the Soho Beach House for a private screening and Q&A of the popular reality TV show that follows Mexican Regional singer and composer Larry Hernandez. The new season will follow Larry as he continues to explore the balance between work and family life, especially with a growing brood and a new fiancée, Kenia Ontiveros. In Season 4, we're excited to see how Larry handles the pressure to divorce his ex-wife and the gang's trip through Europe, peppered with his infamous "no filter" commentary.

3. The Arts & Entertainment District hosted Miami's first-ever Miami Soul Train. Also on Thursday, the A&E District took their event planning talents to Miami-Dade Public Transit in a (successful) effort to expose locals to the MetroMover. During the event, locals rode the MetroMover while wearing wireless LED headphones as part of a giant "silent" dance party. If you missed it, search #MiamiSoulTrain on Instagram for a ton of great videos that capture the vibes of the night. Our favorite was a video captured by our friend Jomary (@JomaryJimenez) of everyone jamming not so silently to "Hey Ya!". We hope to see you at the A&E District's June events!

4. Uber celebrates one year in Miami with "You Ride - We Give". Can you believe we have been relying on Uber for our transportation for only one year? Neither can we. To celebrate their first 365 days in our beautiful city, Uber Miami is giving back to our favorite local and national causes for every ride you take this week. Just enter the promo code to the organization of your choice in your Uber app and they will donate $1 for every ride you take. It's that simple! 

5. Zagat announces Miami's 27 Most Anticipated Openings for Summer. If you've been following us on Twitter and Instagram, you know we're can't-ing at the rate in which South Beach's restaurants have been closing. We were particularly sour at the closing of Café Mistral, our favorite neighborhood café. Zagat's announcement makes that pill easier to swallow as they announce the upcoming opening of restaurants we are highly anticipating, such as Bachour's Bakery and Bistro in Brickell, Wapo Taco! in Coral Gables, Phuc Yea!'s brick-and-mortar in MiMo, and NaiYaRa in Sunset Harbour. And so goes the Miami food scene's circle of life...

#ThankYouMiami How-To: Jet-setting - 3 Destinations Every Miami Local Must Visit

Miami is the ideal home base for jet setters. Its central location is a hop, skip, and a jump to Mexico and Central America - a survivable flight to everywhere else. Plus, our local airport is an American Airlines hub. Combined, these perks make traveling extremely easy in the few occasions when we feel compelled to leave paradise.

Because we live in jet setter HQ, us Miami locals are very well traveled. We're constantly coming, going, or planning our next vacation. And, now that summer (read, travel) season is unofficially here,  we imagine you're probably doing all three frequently. To help inspire your future travels, today we are sharing our top 3 travel destinations du jour: Nicaragua, Panama, and the Maldives. Here's why you need them on your "must visit" list.

Nicaragua

Nicaragua is our most recent travel destination. Last June, we planned a 10-day trip to Rivas, Nicaragua with 7 of our friends. We stayed at Fort Walker, a newly completed five-bedroom house situated in front of Panga Drops surf break. While we spent most of our time relaxing at the gorgeous house, we ventured out several times with the help of Nicaragua365 to surf other breaks and to explore Granada, the oldest city in the continent. The surf, the beaches, the climate, the history, and the fritanga are but five reasons why you must visit. Watch our travel diaries to see more.

The Maldives

We visited The Maldives for our honeymoon nearly three years ago and it is our most frequently recommended destination. To be honest, the only two reasons we haven't already gone back are the length and cost of the trip. During our visit, we stayed in an overwater bungalow on a Kaafu Atoll island that is home to the Chaaya Island Resort Dhonveli and only the Chaaya Island Resort Dhonveli. The beauty of the Maldives is that there is a plethora of islands and resorts that look similar. We found this particular resort through Waterways Surf Adventures and chose it because your stay includes exclusive access to Pasta Point, a highly-coveted surf break. Lucky for the non-surfers, we confirmed during our stay that the resort's 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor are for more than its guests-only surf break. We also credit the staff's incredible hospitality, the incomparable scuba diving and snorkeling, and the awe-inspiring views.

Panama

Panama is our most frequented destination. In fact, if we ever leave Miami, you can bet we're headed there. We love it because it offers a dichotomy between natural and engineered landscapes, much like Miami.
